During the first semester whilst I was performing my initial UI research, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to feature illustrations throughout RX Ready, relating to each stage/page’s topic were applicable. From my research, I gathered that illustrations are commonly well received by a wider user age group and bearing in mind my own target audience, I felt it appropriate to take this approach when it can to creating my app.
However, I soon realised that digital art/illustration isn’t my strongest area when it comes to UI. And due to my perfectionist nature, I knew that to get illustrations to the standard that i’d be happy with, would result in me not completing my application in the give time frame. Due to this, I took the executive decision to do a little research online to see what available sources there are out there that would allow me to customise/incorporate the RX Ready branding into illustration that were also relatable to my product features.
After some searching, I came across Story Set. A website that offers free customisable illustrations for your next project. They even offer the ability to animate their illustrations.
In order to use these illustrations however, attribution is required or paying for a premium plan to use them without attribution. As this site offered me the best visuals and customisation I’d come across so far, I discussed with Kyle about using them throughout my application and that say the project was to move into development stages in the future, at that stage I would incorporate a section within settings to pay attribution to the story set designers for the illustrations.
This was the best move for my project right now and I removed some of the stress I was feeling towards creating illustrations that I was going to be happy with in the end result.
